Attendance Policies
Attendance in all your classes is important for many reasons:
Attendance and Lateness Policy
All of your teachers will keep a record of your attendance. If you are late for class, they will also keep a record of this. This is the lateness policy for all of UCI Continuing Education's ESL classes:
If you want to know how many hours of absence we have recorded for you so far, if you are sick for more than a day or two, or if you have some special problem, please talk to Gail Schwartz in Building CE1 use the "Contact Us" form to let us know what's wrong. We want to help you as much as we can!
- You are here to learn, and you can do that best if you come to class every day.
- If your attendance is satisfactory, you will receive a certificate at the end of the program. Students who miss more than 14 hours (31⁄2 days) of core classes will not receive a certificate and may be dismissed from the program.
- If you have a student visa, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requires you to attend classes regularly. We don’t want you to have any visa problems.

- Less than 15 minutes late = Tardy (late)
- 15+ minutes late = 1 hour absence
- 3 Tardies (Lates) = 1 hour absence
- More than 14 hours absence total = No certificate. Possible dismissal.
